A modern take on daily news

Vigilante began as a monthly paper in 1993, founded by the father and grandfather of journalist Gyasi Sulvaran. What started as a family project grew into one of Curaçao’s most trusted daily newspapers.

For Gyasi, journalism isn’t just work; it’s a rhythm passed down through generations. Every morning begins with checking the latest stories, from court updates to community news. By the afternoon, the articles are written and sent to print. “Vigilante never sleeps,” he says.

"The news keeps moving, and so do we."

Over time, the internet and social media have transformed how news spreads. “It made us sharper. When we post a story, our readers add details, share perspective, and it’s like the news itself becomes a conversation.” Gyasi sees social media not as a threat but as an opportunity to connect more deeply with readers while staying true to Vigilante’s standard: publish fast but always verify.

We’ve built a large following, with over 200,000 people on Facebook, but turning that attention into sales is still a work in progress. This is why Vigilante integrated Sentoo into its website and online platform, enabling readers across the Caribbean to pay easily through their local banks. “When I lived in the Netherlands, I used iDEAL all the time,” Gyasi explains. “Sentoo gives us that same convenience here.”

For him, Vigilante will always stand for trustworthy, fast, and investigative journalism. “It’s my family’s legacy and my way of continuing it into the future.”
