Stichting Hestia Curacao is a Curaçao-based foundation that supports single mothers with no income as they work toward financial independence. Rather than offering temporary relief, Hestia helps women rebuild confidence, discover their strengths, and take practical steps toward work, education, or starting their own business.
The foundation Stichting Hestia was created after its founders saw both sides of reality on the island: households with items they no longer needed, and families missing even the basics. As co-founder Rian van Barneveld explains, “We saw that some people were replacing things after just a few years, while other families didn’t even have a couch.” Hestia bridges that gap by collecting donated clothing and household items, selling them at affordable prices, and using the proceeds to support mothers directly.
What makes Hestia special is its hands-on approach. The team works alongside each mother, helping her move toward employment, entrepreneurship, or further training. “We did not want to just give out fish,” Rian says.
"We wanted to teach the mothers how to fish."
To support its work, Stichting Hestia uses Sentoo. The foundation introduced it to make paying in-store easier for customers who do not carry cash, and to offer a simple way for people to donate online. For Hestia, these donations are essential. Every contribution helps them continue building futures with the mothers they support.
